Waite Middle School held its annual Red Ribbon Week Celebration this year from Thursday October 23rd to Thursday, October 30th. This year’s theme was “I Elect To Be Drug Free” in keeping with the spirit of the presidential elections. Classrooms participated in making Red Ribbon Week banners which were hung along the Norwalk Boulevard parking lot fence. Many creative and colorful banners were displayed for the community to see. The winners of the banner contest were Mrs. Taylor, 6th grade, Mrs. Kim, 7th grade and Mrs. Nichols, 8th grade. Waite students participated in a writing contest. This year’s winners were Adrian Villagrana, 8th grade, Lorena Alvarez, 7th grade, and Robert Pena, Daniel Perez and Alan Solorzano, 6th grade. The school was decorated with red ribbon, posters and signs put up by ASB students, Mr. Bittner’s Leadership class and Mr. Frazier’s PE classes. Kaiser Permanente Hospital performed a special play for our 7th and 8th grade students entitled “Someone Like Me”. The play depicted issues that middle school students face in their lives and at school. The play was also done in a special performance for parents. Camfel Productions presented their multimedia extravaganza shows entitled “Charting Your Course” and “Trust Me”. Students danced to the beat at the “Halloween/Red Ribbon Dance” sponsored by the ASB. This was one of the most active Red Ribbon Weeks in recent history at Waite. Red Ribbon Week is held every year across the country in schools and communities
