“We can, whenever and wherever we choose, successfully teach all children whose schooling is of interest to us.”
--Ronald Edmonds, Past Director, Center for Urban Studies, Harvard University
At Waite, we believe that schools can and do make a difference. We believe that school is a place that provides equity and access. As your principal, it is my job to ensure we have such a dynamic learning environment as we strive to maximize each and every student’s potential. Teachers work collaboratively to analyze data and design curriculum and lessons to reinforce students’ strengths and further their development of skills across content areas. As your principal, I work alongside our talented teachers in assessing students’ needs and designing curriculum and programs that will engage and inspire our adolescent learners, caring for them as part of our Waite family. That’s the Waite Way.
At Waite, we are:
This will be achieved through collaboration between staff, students, parents, and community to help students realize their individual potential. Our full staff—from custodial to supervision to cafeteria to front office to and classroom teachers—guide students in using all tools at their disposal to think for themselves, to act with responsibility and purpose, and to, each day, make themselves a little wiser and the world a little better. Our vision is to do this in an environment that stimulates students' curiosities, develops in them a great attitude, and helps students feel safe and willing to try all the opportunities available on our campus.
We need you to join us in our goal, whether through volunteer opportunities, PTSA membership, School Site Council, ELAC, guest speaker events, study trips, and/or award contributions! Please call or visit at the contacts below. If I am able to help you with anything to enrich a child's success, please contact me. Here's to a wonderful 2017-2018 school year!
Susan Newcomb, Ph.D.
Principal, Waite Middle School
